BETFAIR and new comer iBETX are currently offering person to person, exchange betting
on many of the major North American meets on a daily basis. This new concept in wagering
pits player against player at fixed odds, with bettors able to either buy or
sells win positions at odds of their own choosing.
With commissions, based on level of play, ranging as low as 2 percent of net winnings
players can effectively improve their ROI by 20 percent over pari-mutual play.
Handle on BETFAIR, which has offered N.A. wagers for approximately one year,
can frequently exceed handle at the presenting track. This indicates phenomenal
acceptance of the concept as well as system and operational functionality.
iBETX is a relative newcomer to the scene and trading volume indicates this fact.
However, they are offering wagering on evening N.A. races which BETFAIR currently
does not.
Now cash some winners!

Brockton Fair Awaits Suffolk Strategy
Brockton, MA (PI) - After sinking $3MM into restoring the Brockton (MA) Fairgrounds and
offering the first meet in 30 years at that location, the Carney Dog Racing Empire
cancelled last year's 6 week stand, scheduled to start in June. A dispute with the
HPBA and Suffolk Downs over a 3 percent surcharge levied on Brockton is believed to be the
season breaker.
This is 3rd Bay State bull ring to abort a revival of fair style racing in the last
decade. Restaurantuer and dog track operater Charley Sarkis rehabed the Foxboro
trotting oval for night thoroughbred racing only to have an equine epidemic
force him to abandon his efforts. The Barrington Fairgrounds were wiped out by
a tornado, reopened for two seasons, and then shuttered. Management was unable to
obtain local approval to handle simulcast business. And now, Brockton has closed
again. Add to that litany, the termination of racing at the historic Marshfield Fair.
This all a shame. Fair racing is very grass roots and could be a fertile
breeding ground for new fans, as families move freely from the Midway to the races.
The Carney Clan put in an fine effort, but the initial meet was poorly attended and
a second season required significant industry support to assure some measure of success.
Oddly, enough Brockton's future might appears to be brightening. With Rockingham
Park management pulling the plug on their summer meet.
Brockton may be called upon to fill some of the enormous void in the New England season.
The Carneys' have made a significant
investment in the facility and would appear to have the patience and staying power to
make this venture profitable, should Suffolk decide to shutter for a portion of
the Summer months.
